Clean lines, balanced proportions and flowers as the focal point. Why a minimalist wedding cake is often harder to make than an ornate one.

Two-tier white wedding cake decorated with red and white roses and baby’s breath

Sometimes elegance is not about adding more. It is about knowing what to leave out. This minimalist wedding cake was designed around a simple idea: let the flowers become the focal point.

Why a minimalist wedding cake is harder

Rather than relying on intricate decorations, I wanted clean lines, balanced proportions and a restrained design that allows every element to breathe. In pastry, simplicity is often more demanding than complexity. Every imperfection becomes visible, leaving precision with nowhere to hide.

  • Sharp edges and perfectly straight sides on every tier.
  • Proportion: the top tier, the bottom tier and the flowers have to feel like one composition.
  • Restraint: one rope border, fresh roses, a little baby's breath, nothing more.

Planning a wedding cake with a couple

Every cake starts with a conversation: the venue, the season, the flowers in the bouquet and the flavours the couple loves. From there I sketch the silhouette first and the decoration last, so the cake still looks calm and confident on the day.

Simplicity is one of the hardest forms of craftsmanship to master.
